Focusing on You—Which type of therapy is right for you.
CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy or Treatment)
CBT or Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is a clinically proven to be affective in treating depression, intimate partner issues, interpersonal issues, and a whole host of other issues.
Here together we will work together to fix unhelpful ways of thinking.
We will work on identifying unhelpful patterns of behaviour.
We will also work on learning to alter unhelpful thinking patterns and learn better ways of changing behaviour
Narrative Therapy
In this type of therapy, we acknowledge that the client is an expert of their lives. Here we will work together to formulate a story that influence how you see yourself and your life. This treatment model is best for issues such as anxiety, grief, eating disorders, and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Psychodynamic Therapy
With this type of therapy, the client will discuss freely the specific issues that come to your mind. The goal is to experience a remission of symptoms but also derive such benefits as increased self-esteem, better use of their own talents and abilities, and an improved capacity for developing and maintaining more satisfying relationships. Furthermore, we will work together to uncover subconscious motives that drive decision making and behaviours.
DBT (Dialectical Behavioural Therapy)
DBT similar to CBT attempts to identify and change negative thought and behavioural patterns in the persons life. This was originally used to treat borderline personality disorders. Since its conception in the 1970’s by Dr. Marsha Linhan the applications were expanded to treat a whole host of disorders such as eating disorders, mood disorders, and eating disorders. DBT uses the following techniques to enhance life skills
Distress Tolerance- Being able to feel intense emotions such as depression and anger without acting impulsively.
Emotional Regulation- The ability to label, recognise and adjust emotions.
Mindfulness- The ability to be present in the moment without distraction from internal and external sources.
DBT typically occurs in four stages.
Stage 1- Treats the most destructive behaviour such as suicidality and risk taking behaviour.
Stage 2- Treats quality of life issues such as distress tolerance and emotional regulation.
Stage 3- Focuses on improved relationships with the self and others.
Stage 4- Focuses on finding joy and social connectiveness.
If you face your flaws, you’ll notice the change.
One can only change what you acknowledge.
